Pathways to residency and citizenship in the DR

There's more than one way to become a resident here. The right route depends on your situation, whether you're investing, retiring, or joining family.

Temporary and permanent residency

Most people start with temporary residency and move to permanent residency later. The process runs through Migration and requires documents from your home country, a medical check, and a local sponsor or basis for the application.

Documents from abroad usually need an apostille and an official translation. Getting these right the first time saves the most time.

Investor and retiree routes

There are faster tracks for people who invest a qualifying amount, or who can show stable retirement or passive income (rentista/pensionado). These can shorten the path to permanent status.

Each route has its own proof requirements, so we match your circumstances to the one that fits before filing.

Toward naturalization

After holding residency for the required period, many people become eligible to apply for naturalization. Time as a resident, ties to the country, and a clean record all count.

We map out the full timeline at the start so you know what each stage needs and roughly when.
